Where’s The Dog?

A Comedy Musical

‘Where's The Dog’ is an outrageously funny musical that delves into the turmoil when the family dog, Billy, goes missing.  As the search for Billy turns up empty, the Williams family fabric begins to unravel, blame is cast, secrets unearthed, pent-up frustrations felt, mid-life crises triggered, newfound sexual liberations experienced, and relationships breakdown. This production transcends the conventional boundaries of musical theatre, venturing into dynamic territories of comedy, absurdity, and songcraft. The unpredictable nature of Where's The Dog has the audience in stitches and in tears as it explores the chaotically profound, relatable and somewhat disappointing journey of being human. As some would say it's a dog-eat-dog world, but not to worry there was no consumption of canines of course. Amidst the turbulence and heartache, the central question remains: will Billy be found?

Development

Where's The Dog? presented a development show as part of the 2024 Adelaide Fringe through the support of an Adelaide Fringe Fund grant. The production received strong audience engagement, highlighting the potential of its quirky, heartfelt storytelling and fresh musical voice. Building on this momentum, the creative team is currently preparing to record a cast album to capture the show’s distinctive sound and energy. Plans are underway for further script and score developments, with the goal of presenting a refined production at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2026.

“The music is brash, the lyrics hilariously rude, and songs like ‘Derek Do the Dishes’, ‘I Love the Dog More Than You’, and ‘The Favourite Child’ are clever in narrative and comedy.”

- Mark Whickett

“It’s black comedy, with robust language and themes, but it is hilarious. Catchy too: the audience is still humming ‘Picture Perfect Family’ as they leave the theatre & they’re still laughing from the recognition of family dynamics behind the social media perfection, relieved that surely their lives aren’t that bad, and with a nagging reminder to feed the dog.”
